"Great Basin Burrow Owl vs Badger” - What an amazing encounter!!! I spotted this Burrow Owl alongside the road as I was driving by at 65mph and slowed, then stopped, then turned around and came back thinking I saw something (the owl is so so so small but it just caught my attention somehow) and then settled in for a long wait - the sighting happened a few hours before sunset and I was just hoping it would stick around until the light got good.

Eventually the light started to peak and suddenly this one Owl turned into two and screeching occurred and suddenly this Badger popped up out of nowhere and the battle for survival was on! I never in a million years thought the Owl would be the victor but it was. The Owl (joined by it’s partner who I hadn’t seen until seconds before the Badger showed up) fought the badger off in a flurry of action but it was this moment of wings perfectly outstretched and the Badger still perfectly camouflaged that made me so content with this encounter. It is a once in a lifetime sighting and encounter and I hope you enjoy.
